High School News
Dear Parents of High School Students,
Hello and Welcome to Rosslyn Academy!
School has been is session for only 2 hours as I type this and I can say there is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the air. Students are excited to be back. Teachers are excited to mentor, teach and serve. It will be a glorious year at Rosslyn!
It is my heart’s desire that this be an extremely meaningful year for all our high school students and an exceptionally memorable one for our seniors. Before I venture into some important changes and details for this year, please let me begin with a spiritual focus for all of us in the Rosslyn community. Last year’s theme verse for the year was…does anyone remember? “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord….” (Colossians 3:23)
This year’s verse challenges us to maturity in Christ as we live out our faith in our relationships with each other. I will again, pledge to keep this year’s verse before us throughout the year to challenge us. As it says in Deuteronomy 6: 6-8, “These commandments that I give to you today are to be upon your heart. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them down on the doorframes of your houses and your gates.” May we do this with the school verse for this year? This year’s challenging verses are Romans 12: 9 – 13, which says:
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”
There is so much here. May we ask Him to begin His work in us to transform us to the image of Jesus the Christ.
Now may I share a few items of interest and importance with you? There are a few focus points for our teachers and students this year. Please take some time to go onto the Rosslyn Academy website under the high school link and click on documents and the HS Parent/ Student handbook. I would encourage you to print it out and read through it. It will answer almost any question you might have with regards to school procedures, policies and rules.
A couple points of focus for the high school this year is with regard to tardies and absences. The high school teachers will have a uniform plan to address a tardy to class. A student will be given “3 tardies of mercy”, and then if the student is tardy, they will have the choice of 15 minutes of time to be given to the teacher in community service, 1% off their next test grade or 200 ksh donation to the Christmas fund.
The second focus is something we need your help with. If your child is absent, please call the school [wireless numbers are 0727 646602 or 0732 646602 or 0717 646602 (last 6 digits of each number are the same] and ask for Jackie in the high school office. Tell Jackie your child’s name and that s/he is absent. If Jackie does not pick up, please tell the receptionist (Rose) to give this message to Jackie. If you forget to make this call, please send a note signed by you stating the dates of their absence to school and tell your child to give it to Jackie in the high school office.
I am very excited about the 2012 – 2013 school year. We have a strong group of seniors that will take the mantle of leadership and wear it well. We have some new and returning teachers that will bring fresh and new ideas. Excitement awaits. Challenges are ahead. God is with us. We will grow and flourish.
Grateful to Him and you,
David Wolff
P.S. In the next Rosslyn Reporter, I will introduce or new staff to you and if there is room, I want to share my “David and Goliath” summer experience with you.
Middle School News
Dear Parents & Students of MS,
Welcome! We had a great first day for our new Middle School students and teachers. While there have been a lot of changes in the Middle School over the summer, it was great to finally see the faces that we are going to be working with over the next year. Your student will be given a brand new schedule tomorrow so we should eliminate any confusion on where to go throughout the day. Also, some of our teachers may be adding a few things to the school supply list so please communicate with your student so they can get the materials that will help them be successful this year.
The Middle School team is so excited for the start of this year! We are anticipating great things for our students throughout the upcoming months.
If you have any questions or concerns you may always contact me using the information below.
Blessings,
Tyler Heugel

Elementary School News
Greetings Elementary School Students and Families,
We trust your children had a great first day of school today, and are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning. We are so excited to begin this adventure together. The community of professional and caring teachers who will be working with your children are truly excellent. Please make a point to meet them and get involved in your children’s classes.
In fact, we enthusiastically invite you to come and see what we’re all about here at school! Please feel welcome to come in to visit, volunteer, and participate with all the exciting learning activities we have available. If you contact me, or your child’s classroom teacher, we would be happy to find ways to include you.
Our theme verses for the year are Romans 12:9-12. We are encouraging your children to look for ways to love sincerely and honor one another.
Coming up . . . please mark your calendars “half day” for your children on September 31 (we dismiss at noon, so teachers can be sharpened by some professional development that afternoon).
Please remember that elementary school children can be dropped off at school no earlier than 8:00 am, and picked up no later than 3:45 pm each day. We do not offer supervision outside these hours. To learn more about our school procedures and systems, please read the Parent/Student Handbook, which can be found at online (or you can collect a hard copy at the ES office). On the back page, it contains a list of all the teachers, with each of their email addresses. Here’s the link:

Thank you for your partnership. Thank you for entrusting your children to us. See you at school . . .
For His glory,
Kim Gilmer
